New single out! Survey responses needed!
10 days ago – Thu, Jun 06, 2019 at 08:50:55 PM

Yesterday we dropped another new single from Lumos!

Please have a listen to Hermione's Army. It's one of our favorite tracks from the new album. Is it a jam? Is it a groove? You decide!

Earlier in the week, we sent out surveys to all our backers. Most folks have already returned the survey – good job all you early-birds! – but if you haven't  done it yet, dig around in your email and get it back to us ASAP.

When you do the survey, there's a few other things you can add-on. One of which is this completely epic summer tour poster with art by Dan McCarthy. This 7-color, 18" x 24" glow-in-the-dark screenprint. This thing is amazing

We're hoping to start getting things shipped out early next week, so get on that survey and we'll start carb-loading the owls. You know... because they're gonna have a lot of mail to deliver.

Surveys coming soon!
13 days ago – Mon, Jun 03, 2019 at 06:56:00 PM

Hi everyone,

Just a real quick update to let you know what's happening with LUMOS!

We'll be receiving the CD and LP pressings this week and we're hoping to get them in the mail to you ASAP.

Over the next few days, you’ll receive an email from us with a special link to a BackerKit survey. It’s important to respond to your survey as quickly as you can since we need this information to fulfill your rewards.

You don’t need to create a BackerKit account to fill out your survey. When you receive the email with the survey, click the survey link to respond. We're mainly asking you to confirm your shipping info, but some folks requested certain add-on items, so this will be your opportunity to add a few other things to your kickstarter package if you're interested in that. You don’t have access to this survey link yet, but it will be available soon via email!

After you respond to your survey, you can go back later and change your responses at any time before we close the surveys and get our final counts. We will be closing the surveys on Saturday, so please respond quickly.

If you need to review your information or pledge status, you can return to your survey by clicking the link in your survey email or requesting your survey link under "Lost your survey?" on our BackerKit project page at https:/harryandthepotters.backerkit.com.

If you used your Facebook credentials to log in to your Kickstarter account, the BackerKit survey is sent to the email address you use for your Facebook account. If you have another email address that you prefer to use, please contact support at https://harryandthepotters.backerkit.com/faq.

Thanks a bunch! We can't wait to get this album out to you!

Listen to THE TRACE
about 1 month ago – Thu, May 09, 2019 at 06:13:12 PM

Yesterday we *officially* released the first single from our new album!

Check out this first look at The Trace! Our friend Alora put this video together which includes footage from the first time we played this song in the Malfoy Manor Dungeon.

We talked with Brooklyn Vegan about the song:

In Harry Potter’s wizarding world there is a culture of surveillance. The Trace is a kind of tracking magic specifically used to police underage magic outside of Hogwarts. On our summer tours when our equipment malfunctioned we would conveniently joke, “Whoops. Sorry, we can’t use magic during summer vacation. We’ll get arrested.” In times of peace this might be deflected as a not-particularly-threatening overreach of power, but, as we attempt to say in the song, this culture of surveillance opens the door to misuse and abuse when a ruling class is set on restricting the power of others. We see this when Voldemort seizes power and his regime institutes a more aggressive police state through new surveillance tools like the Taboo, which tracks the use of specific words and can lead to the arrest and detainment of their speaker.

When we play this song I think about the prevalence of surveillance structures in our society. I think about the way communities of color and immigrants are surveilled and policed. I think about the near-constant surveillance being done by private tech companies who monitor our every click as a means of influencing our thoughts and behaviors. In the United States there’s a lot of good work being done by organizations like Free Press, Demand Progress, and Fight for the Future to protect people’s privacy rights from being violated by government, police, and corporate entities. This is a pivotal moment in our history as we figure out what privacies we will keep as we move forward. Do we simply accept the terms of service and continue?

But the question remains: is The Trace a banger or a bop?

Let us know what you think here.

Thanks for supporting this album! We've got about 2 weeks left on the Kickstarter side of things. Please share this with anyone you think may be interested!

First new song released!
about 1 month ago – Sat, May 04, 2019 at 08:33:56 PM

Hi everyone,

We're so honored by all of the Kickstarter pledges and can gush with gratitude for several extended blog posts, but I just realized it's pretty late in the day and we did something really special today that we wanted to let you know about.

Today is May 1st which coincides with both the anniversary of the Break-in at Gringotts and May Day/International Workers’ Day. To honor both of these special events, we have put a new song on our website for ONE DAY ONLY. Now is your chance to hear the first full song from our new album, Lumos. Get ready to ride the dragon.

We hope you like it!!!
